Anu Fredrikson New Executive Director of Arctic Frontiers
"I am excited to have the opportunity to work with this network as we reshape the organizational structure of Arctic Frontiers both to strengthen the organization and to meet the challenges posed by Covid-19", says Anu Fredrikson about the new opportunity.
Arctic Frontiers announces the recruitment of Anu Fredrikson as the new Executive Director of Arctic Frontiers.
"With Anu Fredrikson we get a highly qualified leader of Arctic Frontiers. Fredrikson holds a profound knowledge base and experience with Arctic issues. We are very pleased to have her onboard as the captain of our flagship Arctic Frontiers” says Managing Director of Akvaplan-niva Merete Kristiansen in a press release.
This statement is echoed by Salve Dahle, who initiated Arctic Frontiers more than 15 years ago, and has acted as head of the Steering Committee since then.
“I am very pleased having Anu to take over the reigns” he says.
Anu Fredrikson comes to Arctic Frontiers from the position as Director at Arctic Economic Council (AEC), an independent business organization facilitating business-to-business activities and responsible economic development in the Arctic.
Fredrikson is no stranger to Arctic Frontiers and she states:
“Having worked with Arctic issues for a decade, I have witnessed the development of Arctic Frontiers. I am impressed by the efforts by previous Directors, the Arctic Frontiers team and partners. I look very much forward to building upon this foundation in collaboration with the Arctic Frontiers’ partners as well as the many friends of the organization and the Arctic.”
Prior to joining the AEC in 2016, Fredrikson worked as an Advisor in Political Affairs and Arctic Policy at the Embassy of Finland in Oslo. In addition to Arctic policy and trade promotion, her portfolio covered foreign and security policy, questions related to energy and economy as well as climate policies.
Fredrikson is originally from Oulu in Northern Finland. She has a master’s degree in International Relations from the University of Tampere in Finland and holds a Certificat d’Etudes Politiques from Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Lille in France. She has also studied in the United States and Norway.
Fredrikson will start her position as Executive Director of Arctic Frontiers in October 2020.
“Arctic Frontiers has an impressive partner network which represents a broad range of experience and expertise. I am excited to have the opportunity to work with this network as we reshape the organizational structure of Arctic Frontiers both to strengthen the organization and to meet the challenges posed by Covid-19. Considering the challenges and changes caused by climate change, Arctic Frontiers with its convening power will continue to be an important platform on the path towards an even more responsible development in the Arctic”, Fredrikson says.
