Norway Joins the EU's Navalny Sanctions
Norway joins the EU's sanctions against Russia, following the poisoning of opposition politician Alexei Navalny.
On Wednesday EU member states agreed to impose sanctions against six senior Russian officials. The decision will take effect Thursday.
Norwegian Foreign Minister Ine Eriksen Søreide writes in an e-mail to NRK that Norway "has politically supported the EU action regime regarding the use of chemical weapons. We also support the new listings from the EU."
Affected by sanctions such as asset freezing and travel bans are, among others, the oligarch Yevgeny Prigoshin and the director of FSB, Alexander Bortnikov.
"Moscow will respond in kind against European Union sanctions over the case of Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny", Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday to Reuters.
Alexei Navalny was poisoned by the military chemical nerve agent Novichok.
