High North News is back with its mapping of the expansion of the Corona virus in the Arctic. No new cases of infection have been discovered in Greenland since 4 April. All 11 who have been ill with Covid-19 in Greenland have been reported healthy again. Premier Kim Kielsen says at a press conference that the authorities are planning a gradual re-opening of Nuuk.
More than 900 persons have been tested for Covid-19 in Greenland since the first case of infection was discovered on 16 March.
There has currently not been any new cases of Covid-19 since 4 April.
Yesterday, Greenland started using a new test machine to test for Covid-19 in a Nuuk lab. Earlier, all tests had to be shipped to Copenhagen. Now, however, Greenland can have its tests results a lot faster. Greenland’s Chief Medical Officer Henrik L. Hansen yesterday said that he is confident that there is not local spreading of the infection in Greenland, according to Sermitsiaq.
Premier Kim Kielsen said at the same press conference that the authorities are planning to gradually re-open the capital Nuuk, provided that no new cases of Covid-19 appear.
All 11 who have been reported ill with Covid-19 in Greenland have been declared healthy again, which makes Greenland the only affected country in the world to have gotten rid of the virus without deaths occurring.
