New Barents Sea Fisheries Agreement Between Norway and Russia

Yesterday, Norway and Russia signed a new Barents Sea fisheries agreement for 2019.


Norway and Russia have agreed on a new Barents Sea fisheries agreement for 2019.

The agreement emphasizes continued sustainable management of the fish stock in the area, and includes a cod quota of 725,000 tons that is to be split between Norway, Russia and third party countries following the pattern of previous agreements.

The parties also agree to fight marine pollution following from fisheries activities, and the agreement includes technical regulations for the conducting of fisheries, control measures and research cooperation.

The new agreement was signed in Ålesund, Norway yesterday.
